Theater

The theater program at North Country School challenges students to see the performing arts as more than just a Broadway musical. We explore highly technical, sustainable, and innovative ways to put on a dramatic production. Classes range from theater history, stage combat, comedy, acting, directing, and playwriting to technical theater, lighting, make-up, and stage management. We put on a main stage production every spring, with a variety of smaller productions as well.

NCS Theatre Season for 2010 – 2011

Fall Show: The Little Prince, French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's classic story of a downed pilot in the Sahara Desert, who befriends and learns unlikely lessons from a young prince.

Thanksgiving: Blockhead, stories based on the Charles Schulz character, Charlie Brown.

Spring Production: The Goonies, Stephen Speilberg’s 1985 children’s adventure story with all the elements of a classic good versus evil struggle: a corrupt corporate bad guy, a treasure map, and gang of reluctant child-heroes.

Spring Productions

Wonderland

The spring production in 2010 was Wonderland, an adaptation of Lewis Carroll's stories by NCS theater director Ryan Joyce. It was the perfect expression of the predominant theme of the 2009 – 2010 theatre season: the process of self-discovery through imagination. Wonderland is also the quintessential embodiment of the type of school we are, the distinctive program we offer, and unique students we serve. With all its technical complexity, range of colorful characters, and thought-provoking manipulations of reality, Wonderland was a production we simply had to put on. It fit our ultimate goal for our theatre program: to challenge our students and stretch their perception of what they are able to perform, create, and achieve.

 James and the Giant Peach

The spring production in 2009 was Roald Dahl's classic.
