Libraries Circulate Renewable Resources
Located at the hub of the school, the NCS library is a cozy space — huge windows soak up the sun and frame our farm and mountain landscape beyond. Our library is also a busy place, serving students aged 9-16 who
span a wide spectrum of intellectual capabilities and developmental stages. We strive to honor and
serve all of our students’ academic and recreational reading needs. Our long-term affiliation with the School Library System of Northern
New York has contributed to our high-tech Internet resources and
sophisticated research databases. Click here to access our online resources, including InterLibrary Loan and Teachingbooks.net.
More than a source of information and technology — the library is home
to contemporary literature, student stewardship, and the appreciation
of written expression. Our innovative programming includes Reader’s Workshop (a read aloud elective class), Title Trekking
(an independent reading challenge), and a vibrant Visiting Author
Program that in recent years has brought to campus such notables as
David Lubar and Newbery Award winner Linda Sue Park. Click here for more about Linda Sue's January 2010 visit to NCS.
Our long-time librarian, Alison Follos, is a contributing book reviewer for School Library Journal and has published numerous articles on school library programming. She is the author of a book about how to pique interest in reading among middle school students, Reviving Reading: School Library Programming, Author Visits, and Books that Rock! Westport, CT: Greenwood Publishing/Libraries Unlimited, 2006.
