Program

Helping a younger housemate with math homework; heading to barn chores in subzero weather; completing a rock climbing route previously thought unattainable: these are the opportunities for learning and growth provided by our unique programming outside the classroom.

Close-knit house life, meaningful work jobs in the barn and gardens, and challenging, physical outdoor activities round out daily life at North Country School. Collectively, these offerings provide our students with enriching experiences, new skills, and a basis for healthy development: namely, a critical balance between community and individual needs, work and play, and structure and choice. They also model the importance of making time every day for physical activity, socializing with friends, and quiet time for reading, playing or listening to music, or simply hanging out at “home.” The resulting sense of equilibrium and perspective helps our students develop into grounded, mature, and responsible adolescents.
